The Incomparable Radio Theater is on the air...er...the Substack...
This is the Finley Quality Network. Do you know where your shows are?
Greetings, Radiokateers! (Radiokateers? We’ll work on that…)
I have all kinds of exciting news to share.
First, over on the podcast, we’ve begun the Galaxy Scouts: Prelude miniseries, a collection of short episodes featuring some of your old friends from the Galaxy Scouts episodes of the Radio Theater, but off in their own short adventures. If you want a refresher, maybe visit our holiday special from a few years back, an epic adventure with young Timmy Preston and Scoutmaster Greene as they visit Farfutureland.
Prelude sets up our old characters in new situations, and introduces some new characters along the way, all of whom will wind up meeting and having an epic adventure of their own in full-length episodes very soon.
We’re three episodes in…
Episode 1: Lost in the Stars, in which we find a space battle, a pilot in freefall, and a rescuer who might surprise you.
Episode 2: Starcross’d, in which we meet a cat burglar of sorts, a potential employer, and just what does all this have to do with Scoutmaster Greene?
Episode 3: In the Vastness of Night, in which we meet bounty hunter Tycho Bass as he deals with a most dangerous bounty…himself!
Coming soon: Episode 4: Very Different Today, in which we meet a doctor making a self-diagnosis under extreme conditions…
How many parts are in the Prelude? Are they all connected? That would be telling.
Next order of business. What can you expect from the newsletter?
Well, previews of upcoming episodes and adventures for one thing, as well as news about (hopefully) live shows, member bonuses, and more.
If you sign up for a membership at the Incomparable and choose to support the Radio Theater directly, you will get a second newsletter, The Decoder Ring, with behind the scenes stories, annotations about particularly obscure jokes and references, dramaturgy about inspirations for some episodes and characters, the occasional post from guests and crew, and time and brain permitting, the occasional prose adventures from Tesla, the Fog, Doll Tearsheet, and more. Just like a lot of the classic radio series that inspired the series, we’d love to bring you more prose and pulp adventures as well.
Members’ support will help make that possible. The brain is willing and ready, the time is a little tighter, but we’d love to make that work.
In other news, you can now read the Finley Quality Network newsletter in the new Substack app for iPhone.
With the app, you’ll have a dedicated Inbox for the Radio Theater Substack and any others you subscribe to. New posts will never get lost in your email filters, or stuck in spam. Longer posts will never cut-off by your email app. Comments and rich media will all work seamlessly. Overall, it’s a big upgrade to the reading experience.
The Substack app is currently available for iOS. If you don’t have an Apple device, you can join the Android waitlist here.
Sign up now so you don’t miss a thing!
In the meantime, tell your friends!
